In the category management you administrate the category structure of your shop, and in Shopware 6 the categories are also used to organize the shop pages and the service menu.
You can find the module under Catalogues > Categories.
On the left side you will find the category structure displayed as a fold-out menu. There you have the possibility to change the sorting by drag & drop - this is possible on every category level and you can also move a category into another category as a subcategory.
As mentioned at the beginning, the categories are also used for footer navigation and the service menu. For a clear administration it can be useful to work with two or three category trees, as you can see on the screenshot above.
For each category, the context menu can be opened via the "..." button, which can be used to execute further functions.
To create a new category, open the context menu of an existing category and select one of the menu items New category before, New category after or New subcategory.
Afterwards a mask will be displayed in the menu at the appropriate place, in which you enter the name of the new category and confirm with the check mark.
Please note that a newly created category is initially inactive and is not displayed in the frontend.
You define the content of the category in the editing menu, here you can also activate the category.
You will find more information in the next section Edit category.
To open the editing view of a category, you can either click directly on the name of the category in the list on the left or open the context menu of the category and select Edit.
The machining area is divided into two tabs.
Under General you make the basic settings such as the layout, the menu settings and any desired product assignment.
The Content tab appears as soon as you have assigned a layout to the category and you can edit the content of the individual blocks directly there.
The General area is divided into several points for better clarity.
Please note that the available configuration options depend on the selected category type.
Layout assignment (only for the type Category)
Here you define the styling of the category and assign a layout created in the Shopping Experiences. You can also use the Create new layout button to switch directly to the Shopping Experiences Editor (information on how to use the editor can be found in the Shopping Experiences article).
After you have assigned a layout, the Content tab is activated and you have the option to manage the content for the category.
In the menu settings you can store further information on the category, which can also be loaded directly into an element, for example, in the experience worlds via the data assignment.
Via the product assignment you have the possibility to add products to the category. Products that have already been assigned to a category during creation are already displayed in the list.
In Shopware 6 it is possible to assign articles to each category level.
In the SEO section you enter the meta data of this category that is important for search engines. In addition to an SEO title and a SEO description, you can enter additional keywords that will be considered when searching in search engines.
How the basic structure of the URL of a category page looks like is defined in the SEO settings. In the Canonical URLs section you can also specify an individual URL path for each category. You can specify this separately for each sales channel.
Customizable link (only for the type Customizable link)
If you have chosen Customizable link as category type, you can set a link to an external or internal page here. For example, you can link directly from the navigation to a partner page.
The Content tab shows the content of each block of the layout used for the category, and you can customize the view of the product listing.
First the content of the layout is displayed grouped by blocks, so the type and number of blocks vary depending on the layout. Here you have the possibility to adjust the content directly, without having to switch to the shopping experiences and create a separate category page for each category..
If, for example, you have selected an shopping experience in the layout that dynamically receives the content from the category via data mapping, you can enter a content here that differs from the category.
Since the configuration options here are identical to those of the Shopping Experiences, you can find further information on this in the Shopping Experiences documentation.
Here you can set the view of the product listing, the three following listing layouts are available to you:
