Setting up a separate Shopware 6 environment - for testing, development or staging, for example - is straightforward. There are several ways to do this. You can create an exact copy of your main store with a little know-how.
Simply follow these instructions: Shopware 6 - Tutorials & FAQs - Creating a test environment
You can also find numerous extensions (Shopware 6 apps & themes) in our store that make creating and managing these environments easier.
Yes, if you want to use extensions from your main store in the test environment, additional licensing under the new domain is required. This is particularly advantageous for short-term test environments, as it allows you to use the extensions' free trial periods without affecting your live store.
Even for more complex projects with continuous integration and version or plugin updates outside the live environment, separate licensing under the new domain is necessary if you want to continue using extensions.
This is the only way to avoid license violations and possible subsequent chargeable calculations.

If you use one of our paid plans (Rise, Evolve or Beyond), you can have your test, dev or staging domain officially marked as a staging environment in your account. These domains will then automatically inherit all extension licenses from your main domain for Shopware features and third-party plugins.
License management is still done centrally via the main domain.
